One of my favorite foods to make is lumpia. As some people may not know, lumpia is like a Filipino egg roll... But better. I don’t know about you, but creating memories with your family is one of the best gifts that anyone can ask for. I’m grateful enough to have the opportunity to learn my Lola’s (lola is another term for Filipino grandmother) recipe for lumpia, and let me to tell you this, it is the bomb! Most people like to dip their lumpia in sauces like sweet and sour. But my Lola’s lumpia is so good that it’s already delicious on it’s own. That’s what’s great about lumpia, you can eat it however you want, but nothing can take away it’s authentic flavors. The tastes just brings me back to my family vacation to the Philippines and it was a trip so memorable that I want to return back to my homeland. The smells just reminds me of the food that was cooked back in the province that you can’t get anywhere else. After learning how to make lumpia, it made me realize how much closer I am to my Filipino culture and how important it is to carry on my traditions to future generations of my already huge family. Family is everything to me and cooking food together just brings us that much closer.

Unlike the Chinese version you can make lumpia with all different types of ingredients. But my personal favorite is my Lola's recipe. The simple seasonings that she adds to the ground beef is already so flavorful and the crunch of the crispy roll is music to my ears. I know that it is somewhat of a process to prepare this must have party platter, but it is defintely worth to make it yourself.
So now I'm going to share to all of you how to make lumpia using my Lola's recipe.
Ingredients that you will need

Ground beef
Carrots
Green onions
Ground black pepper
Garlic salt
Lumpia wrappers
Egg/Water
Vegetable oil
Materials that you will need
Large pan
2 small bowls & large bowl
Plate
Cutting board
Knife
Strainer
Large spoon & small spoon
Aluminum tray (or any container to hold your finshed wrapped lumpias)
Frying pan
Tongs
Step-by-Step Instruction

Heat up your large pan on the stove to medium, cook the ground beef, and use a large spoon to turn the meat over
Cut the carrots and green onions into thin slices with a knife on a cutting board
Once the ground beef is thoroughly cooked , strain the ground beef and have a small bowl underneath the strainer to catch the grease
Place the ground beef back in the large pan and put in the carrots and green onions
As you stir the ingredients together, sprinkle the ground black pepper and garlic salt onto the meat until the taste is to your satisfaction
When all the ingredients are fully stirred, pour the ground beef into a large bowl
Set up a table with a plate, the lumpia wrappers all separated, a bowl of either water or stirred egg (egg is preferable), and the large bowl of ground beef
Lay a lumpia wrapper on a plate facing you like a rhombus
Grab a small spoonful of ground beef, lay it halfway between the edge, and the center of the wrapper
Tightly roll the meat up until the halfway part of the lumpia wrap
Fold the left and right edges to the center, then dip two fingers into a bowl of water/stirred egg and place it all over the unfolded flap of the wrap
Roll up the rest of the meat all the way
Place the lumpia in the aluminum tray/container
Repeat steps 8-12 until you run out of meat and lumpia wrapper
Fry the lumpia in a heated pan of vegetable oil that is filled 1/4 of the pan (and please be careful, the oil tends to splatter!)
Cook until browned all over
Eat! Enjoy!
Suggestions: You can enjoy this with sweet & sour sauce, but my personal preferance is to eat it all on it's own because it's that good!
