To me, Filipino food is a bit strange, very colorful, and oh so exciting. There are so many different Filipino dishes that I can't even keep track of them all. But there are a few dishes that are well known to other non-Filipino that you will enjoy or find a little too crazy to try.

Filipino-Adobo-Chicken.jpg

One dish that every Filipino household knows how to make is adobo. The most common type of adobo that my grandparents usually made were chicken or pork, but my mom's specialty is squid. It may sound weird but it tastes so good. There's a bunch of different seasonings that are incorporated into this dish, but one of the main ingredients is vinegar. You can't go wrong with filipino cuisines when it comes to vineger. It's also a great dish to eat with rice and it's just so delicious when it's homemade.

Another common dish of the Philippines is pancit. Pancit is basically noodles by definition. What's great about pancit is that you can add whatever you want to it. Some of the common ingredients are carrots, cabbage, green onions, shredded chicken, and shrimp. It's definintely a favorite for family parties. Can't wait for the next one so I can get myself a fresh bowl.

Now there's one Filipino dish that I will never try. I know for others it's not tat bad. But for me personally, I refuse to even look at it or even try it. Just whatever you do, don't look up balut on Google unless you have a strong stomach. Balut is an egg that has a duckling fetus and.. well you can see from the image that it's very raw and abnormal. If you feel adventurous, be my guest and try it for yourself.

One of the places that I recommend for you to get some delicious Filipino food is Tita's Kitchenette in National City. My family has been going there for years whenver we feel lazy to make Filipino food on our own. It may be an old restaurant, but the food will speak for itself on why the place is so popular. They even have take-out when you need a meal on the go and big platters when you need some food for parties. Tita's is my absolute favorite place when I want some good authentic Filipino food.
